Liposuction
Liposuction is one of the most popular
procedures we perform. It improves the body shape
by removing the stubborn areas of the body that
do not respond to exercise or diet. .The best
candidates for liposuction should not be too overweight.
Skin retracts after liposuction if you are relatively
young., otherwise a followup procedure to remove
excessive skin might be necessary. A consultation
is the best way to find out whether you are a
good candidate for this procedure and how much
improvement to expect. Fluid containing medications
that stop bleeding (tumescent technique) is injected
before liposuctionj to minimize blood loss and
bruising.
Vaser Liposelection was
introduced to Nashville by our group and currently
we are the only practice in town to have the equipment.
It is a fourth generation ultrasonic device that
is selective for fat cells, causing less pain
and bruising while providing better contouring.
Liposuction does not replace a healthy
lifestyle. Good eating habits and regular exercise
are a must for long lasting results.
-
| The abdomen, thighs and arms are all
good targets for liposuction. Small incisions
are made (about 1/4 of an inch) in natural
crease lines if possible and the tumescent
fluid is injected in the fat. |

"Love handles" and "saddle
bags" are also areas where liposuction
can produce excelllent results. |
| The fat is melted using the Vaser Liposelection
probe under the skin and then aspirated
using specially designed canulas that
produce much less trauma than the traditional
cannulas. |

Compression garments are necessary to
produce smooth, even results. The garments
need to be used for up to 4 weeks following
the surgery. You are allowed to take
the garments off for brief periods of
time to shower. |
| Usually results are obvious right away
but over the following 8 to 12 weeks continious
improvement will be visible as the swelling
diminishes. |
